For municipalities

Bring BuildEnergy.ca to your municipality

We build a city-specific instance of the platform — grounded in your climate, your building stock, and the policy levers you actually have. Public-facing, bilingual, and ready for residents, builders, designers, and your own staff.

The gap

Most municipal climate plans can't show residents what 'better' actually looks like.

Buildings drive a major share of municipal emissions, but the data is locked in PDFs, engineering reports, and consultant decks. Residents asking 'should I insulate or switch to a heat pump?' get pointed at generic websites. Builders pitching better specs lose the argument on price alone. Council debates climate action without seeing the trade-offs. BuildEnergy.ca closes that gap with a public, interactive, city-specific tool.

What you get

A public-facing instance tuned to your city

Every instance shares the same engine and discipline as the St. John's reference build. What changes is the local context — and that's the part that matters most.

  • City-specific archetypes modelled to match the buildings your residents actually live in
  • Climate-tuned HOT2000 simulations grounded in your local weather data
  • Bilingual EN + FR from day one, mandatory for any Canadian municipal context
  • Public and accessible — no login, WCAG-aware, mobile-first
  • Your city's branding on a subdomain of buildenergy.ca
  • Methodology page making the assumptions and limits explicit
  • Built-in FAQ and tutorial for first-time visitors
  • Operate-and-update partnership so the platform stays current as your policy evolves

How we work

Three phases, scoped to your city

We've shipped the pattern once with the City of St. John's. The same shape works for any Canadian municipality willing to participate in scoping and validation.

  1. 01

    Discovery

    4 – 6 weeks

We work with your staff to identify the relevant building archetypes, gather building-stock data, and agree on simulation scope. Output: a signed scope document and a roadmap.

  2. 02

    Build

    8 – 12 weeks

Dr Energi runs the simulations (HOT2000 over thousands of scenarios for each archetype). AlterFlow AI integrates the data into your city's instance, brands it, and ships it to your subdomain.

  3. 03

    Operate

    Ongoing

The platform stays live at your-city.buildenergy.ca. We monitor uptime, refresh content as your policy evolves, and respond to public feedback. You get the platform; we keep it running.

The first instance

Live in St. John's — the reference build.

The City of St. John's Energy Advisory Working Group commissioned the first BuildEnergy.ca instance. It runs on the same engine your city would use, tuned to St. John's climate, building stock, and policy context.
