What we collect, what we don't, and why

This page explains, in plain language, how BuildEnergy.ca handles information today.

BuildEnergy.ca is a public information site. You can use its ordinary pages without creating an account. Cloudflare sits in front of the site and processes normal request and network information to deliver pages, protect the service, and prevent abuse.

What we collect

  • If you use the contact form, we collect the name, email address, subject, and message you provide, along with the request's IP address, browser user agent, referring page, language, timestamp, and email-delivery outcome
  • Cloudflare Turnstile processes information needed to check that a contact-form submission comes from a person rather than an automated system
  • Contact submissions are sent by email, added to a private append-only record on our server, and included in infrastructure backups
  • Your EN/FR preference is saved in a locale cookie that is sent to our server; your light/dark theme preference is saved in your browser's local storage

What we don't collect

  • Google Analytics or similar audience analytics
  • Advertising cookies or cross-site marketing pixels
  • Account credentials or payment information — the site has no visitor accounts and takes no payments
  • We do not currently sell or rent personal information

Privacy questions

Use the contact form to ask a privacy question or request deletion of a contact submission. Contact submissions do not currently have a fixed retention period. We will respond and explain what can be removed from active email and server records. Copies already included in backups may remain until those backups expire through their normal cycle, and restoring a backup may recreate a copy that must be handled again.
